What is an Invoice?

The Invoice (NF) is a mandatory document for any purchase or sale of goods, or for services rendered as part of a commercial activity by a business or an individual.

This document is also used to collect taxes, and failing to issue one is considered tax evasion.

So, since this document already exists, why roll out the Electronic Invoice?

As businesses grew and Invoice issuance increased across the country, Tax Administration struggled to keep track of all transactions between companies.

To improve the tax system in Brazil, Constitutional Amendment 42 emerged, giving Tax Administrations the authority to work in an integrated manner, sharing records and tax information as provided by law.

Definition of the Electronic Invoice (NF-e) in Maringá

The Electronic Invoice serves the same purpose as the Invoice, but now digitally. It records purchase, sale, and service transactions between interested parties.

Since this document is digital, tax authorities are informed the moment it is issued.

To guarantee that the NF-e is genuine, a digital certificate was included that confirms its authenticity, serving as a guarantee from the issuer to the recipient, all within applicable rules and laws.

History of the Electronic Invoice (NF-e) in Maringá

After the Constitutional Amendment was established, Tax Administrators held several meetings known as the National Meeting of State Tax Administrators and Coordinators (ENCAT).

The goal was to meet the constitutional requirements and also define a national NF-e model, promote administrative integration between tax authorities, standardize tax procedures, and improve the information system to help oversight carry out coordinated, integrated actions through data cross-referencing.

This document (NF-e) was rolled out in the state of Paraná under ICMS Protocol 30/07 of 07/17/2007.
